As the sun set in the horizon, its last few rays glinted of the vast expanse of white… ‘White as snow’ one would say and why not? Cause as far as the eye could see it was only pure, wondorous white. But, this was not snow, infact far from it. The breathtaking sight in from of me was of the salt marshes of the Thar Desert, which is also known as the Great Rann of Kutch. Located in the Kutch district of Gujarat, India it runs for over 7500 sq miles!
Though it is a desert area, The Great Rann of Kutch is a very popular tourist destination and people throng to visit it, majorly during the months of October to March. This essentially is the ideal time to visit the Rann, since summers are too hot, what with temperatures going up to 50 degrees and in the moonsoon the land becomes very marshy, due to the high clay content in the soil.
